Pedro Napolinário was born in Rio, raised in São Gonçalo, Brazil. The 27-year-old photographer is now based in São Paulo. As a result of a lifetime of experimentation with imagery on different platforms, he started shooting friends and his surroundings at 16 years old as a personal diary. Raised in the suburbs of the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro is heavily inspired by the landmarks and cultural signs that marked the early years of his life. From music to colors, beats to textures, slang to movements; the expression of the youth of Rio is the main source of his inspiration. His approach often looks for an unfiltered and sensitive look at his subjects. Mainly focused on the blackness representation in media – in front and behind the cameras -, Pedro seeks to reference marginalized black social and cultural movements in his images. Also, his work is moved by expressions of the human condition, seeing the human body as a platform to be filled with textures and forms that defy the limits of reality, but always reverencing the ordinaryness of daily life as a backdrop. His main line of creation seeks a hyperbolic approach to reality. His first time in touch with the fashion industry was in September of 2020, and since then, his work has been featured on Dazed, Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, and Forbes, among others. Among his clients are Nike, Adidas, Lacoste, Johnnie Walker, and Netflix.
