Born in Paysandú, Uruguay, Gabriela Hearst was raised on a sheep ranch, surrounded by nature, horses, and wool elements that shaped her conscious design vision. She studied Communications in Montevideo and later Fashion Design at Parsons in New York, where she launched her first brand, Candela. In 2015, she founded her namesake label,committed to sustainable, artisanal, and long-lasting luxury. She has collaborated with cooperatives like Manos del Uruguay and led humanitarian efforts with Save the Children. From 2020 to 2023, she served as Creative Director of Chloé, turning it into the first European B Corp maison. She pioneered the first carbon-neutral runway and opened plastic-free flagship stores. Awarded the Woolmark Prize and CFDA Award, she received TIME’s Earth Award in 2024. Her work bridges New York and Uruguay through refined, purpose-driven design.
