The Farra was born in Uruguay at the end of 2019 as a collective project created by four women: Chiara Deffeminis, Silvia Facciolo, and her daughters Sol Markowicz and Tini Mark. With a fresh perspective and a clear intention, the brand emerged from the desire to take knitwear—historically associated with the domestic and the everyday—into the realm of celebration. From the very beginning, we set out to reinterpret noble materials such as wool and cotton into festive pieces, rooted in craftsmanship and thoughtful design. We wanted to show that handmade can also mean elegance, color, and enjoyment. The heart of The Farra lies in that combination: craftsmanship, joy, and freedom. We design with natural raw materials such as wool, leather, linen, and silk, connecting Uruguayan identity with ancestral techniques and a timeless aesthetic. Each piece seeks to tell a story that unites tradition and modernity, always with genuine sensitivity.
Many of our garments pass through up to three different workshops before they are finished. We like to think that each hand adds a layer of art, emotion, and skill to the final result. We are inspired by the beauty and simplicity of everyday life, and we try to reflect that in each piece: something unique, with soul, designed to accompany real, sincere, and festive moments—pieces of art. The word “farra” holds a special meaning for us. It’s how our grandparents used to ask us if we were going out to party: “¿Te vas de farra?” That spontaneous and lighthearted way of naming enjoyment stuck with us. Today, that same energy runs through everything we do: the design, the production, and the way we work. For us, being de Farra isn’t just about going out to celebrate—it’s a way of creating, living, and undertaking. Even though we come from very different backgrounds, we share a deep passion for noble materials and meaningful ways of making. That generational and formative diversity is one of our greatest strengths: like in a weave, each perspective brings its thread, and together they build an authentic proposal, rich in perspective and with a strong identity.
Our production method also reflects this: we believe in a circular logic, where leftover wool is reused and samples are transformed into new garments. We seek to minimize waste without sacrificing beauty or quality. Thanks to Tini’s technical knowledge, we now also develop our own digital prints, optimizing processes without straying from the artisanal soul that defines us. In addition, the way we construct our garments gives each one the magic and charm of being one of a kind, since no piece of fabric is wasted. Since 2023, with the support of the Uruguayan government, we have begun showcasing our work at international fairs. We’ve participated in Coterie (New York) and Carrousel du Louvre (Paris), and our garments have reached boutiques and retail stores in cities such as Los Angeles, Paris, Buenos Aires, and New York. This expansion means much more than commercial growth: it’s the opportunity to take our way of creating to other parts of the world without losing sight of who we are. In a fast-paced global context, The Farra is committed to a slower, more human, and honest fashion. We believe in handmade, in the value of imperfection, and in garments that accompany and endure. In our universe, every design is a way to celebrate. Because at the end of the day, everything we do, we do with a lot of Farra.
