RODARTE was founded in Los Angeles, California in 2005 by Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The sisters have Mexican, Italian, and Irish heritage, their father is Irish and their mother is Mexican and Italian. Rodarte is a Mexican name and their mother’s maiden name RODARTE is distinguished by the romantic, conceptual way Kate and Laura approach inspiration, storytelling, and how they see the world through landscape, art, film, poetry, culture, and music.

At the center of Kate and Laura’s unique approach to fashion, is their pursuit of innovation through storytelling. Kate and Laura’s vision expands into multi-artistic endeavors, which include their work as costume designers, writers, and directors. In 2017, they released Woodshock at the 74th annual Venice Film Festival. The film was written and directed by the Mulleavy’s, starring Kirsten Dunst, and distributed by A24.

In 2008, Kate and Laura launched RADARTE, a t-shirt and casual wear collection with a play on the brand name and the word “rad”. This pays homage to their California upbringing.

International icons have worn RODARTE and RADARTE globally. Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s design for RODARTE and costume work have been featured in solo exhibitions at the most prestigious museums, culminating in a retrospective at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, d.c. (2018).
