Oskar Metsavaht is an artist, designer, environmentalist and activist. As a multidisciplinary creator, he transits between different areas and is recognized as a visionary for defending and applying socio-environmental practices since the 90s, when these causes and values weren’t yet in vogue.

Named as one of the most influential people in the world of fashion by the Business of Fashion (BoF 500) in 2010, Oskar is amongst pioneers of sustainability in the industry – using Osklen as his creative laboratory. Names to be considered pioneers of this movement are Patagonia’s Yvon Chouinard in 1993, Oskar Metsavaht in 1998 and Stella McCartney in 2001.

Oskar is also the founder and creative director at Osklen. Precursor of the concept of “New Luxury” (Milan 2004), which strives for the fusion between ethics and aesthetics. It conceptualized through its practices and methodology, the philosophy “ASAP | As Sustainable As Possible, As Soon As Possible” that brings the urgency of adopting more sustainable ways in our daily lives and a call for the inclusion of socio-environmental practices in the fashion industry. 

In the 2007 “Deeper Luxury” study, promoted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF-UK), Oskar was appointed along with Elon Musk from Tesla, as a “Future Maker”. Known as an international reference in his field, Oskar is frequently invited to contribute to universities and conferences such as Milano Fashion Summit; Fashinovation Summit in New York; Rio Ethical Fashion Summit in Rio de Janeiro; Harvard – Brazil Conference “How to Sell Brazil” in Boston; 1.618 Sustainable Luxury Fair in Paris, Brazil 200 in Oslo; Omina – Costa Rica Sustainable Fashion Summit; Guest professor by FIT-NY. Through the invitation of editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, Oskar participated in the Runway to Green event, which brought together the biggest sustainability brands around the world. In London of 2012, Osklen has received the title of “Emerging Luxury Brand of the Year”.
